Our Play Therapy Services

Life Story books

I create sensitive, child-centred life story books for adopted children, drawing on 23 years of experience in children’s social care and my work as a play therapist. My life story work helps children make sense of their journey in a safe, developmentally-attuned way.

Play therapy for children during divorce and high conflict separation

High-conflict separation can leave children feeling anxious, torn, overwhelmed or responsible for keeping the peace. Play therapy offers a safe, neutral space for children to express worries, rebuild emotional security and understand what is happening in their family.

I support children experiencing:

  • Ongoing parental conflict

  • Court proceedings or safeguarding concerns

  • Allegations, accusations or loyalty conflicts

  • Changes to contact or residence

  • Feeling pressured to “choose sides”

  • New partners or blended families

  • Big changes in routines, school or home

What therapy can help with:

  • Reducing anxiety, behavioural outbursts or regression

  • Understanding and naming emotions

  • Building resilience and emotional regulation

  • Strengthening the child–parent relationship

  • Supporting transitions between homes

  • Giving children a safe space separate from adult conflict

  • Helping parents understand the child’s experience

Play therapy for children with additional needs

Children with additional needs often experience the world more intensely — sounds, emotions, transitions and relationships can feel overwhelming. Play therapy offers them a safe, non-verbal space to explore feelings, build confidence and learn new ways to cope.

I work with children with:

  • Autism / social communication needs

  • ADHD

  • Sensory Processing Difficulties

  • Learning disabilities

  • Developmental trauma / attachment needs

  • Medical or physical disabilities

  • Speech and language delays

What play therapy can support:

  • Emotional expression when words are hard

  • Anxiety, overwhelm or meltdowns

  • Difficulty with change or transitions

  • Separation or attachment worries

  • Behaviour that communicates distress

  • Confidence and self-esteem

  • Social and relational skills

  • Processing hospital stays, loss, or big life events

My approach:

I create a calming, predictable and sensory-friendly space where your child can explore safely at their own pace. Sessions are fun, creative and fully adapted to each child’s developmental level, strengths and needs.

Therapeutic Stories for Adopted Children

Helping children make sense of their story — through story.

Every child has a story. For adopted children, that story can hold moments of love, loss, confusion, and hope. Sometimes it’s hard to find the right words to help them understand what has happened and who they are.

That’s where a therapeutic story can help.

I create personalised, healing stories fully illustrated that gently reflect a child’s experiences, emotions, and journey — told in a way that feels safe and empowering. Each story is crafted to help children explore themes such as belonging, identity, separation, and change.

Stories can:

Help children process their experiences and emotions

Support honest, age-appropriate conversations

Strengthen attachment and understanding between child and caregiver

Offer comfort, hope, and connection through creativity

These stories can stand alone or form part of Life Story Work or Play Therapy sessions.

Life Story Work

Life Story Work Informed by Play Therapy and Trauma-Informed Practice.

My processes use:

  • therapeutic play

  • creative storytelling

  • visual timelines

  • sensory and symbolic tools

  • child-led narrative building

  • gentle exploration of identity, past events, and family relationships

  • supporting emotional regulation and meaning-making.

I use a blend of play therapy, creative tools, and trauma-informed techniques to help children understand their stories in a safe and supported way.

Stability support for adopters and foster parents

Caring for a child with a history of trauma can be deeply rewarding — but also emotionally demanding. My Stability Support Package combines structured assessment and creative therapeutic work to help prevent placement breakdowns and promote secure attachments.

Using the Behaviour Assessment Tool (BAT) and BAIRT, I work alongside carers and professionals to identify behavioural patterns, measure progress, and tailor support strategies. Alongside this, therapeutic storytelling and life story work help children process experiences, build identity, and strengthen emotional connections.

This holistic approach brings together understanding, evidence, and creativity — supporting both the child’s healing and the carer’s wellbeing.

We offer parent consultations to provide guidance and support in understanding play therapy and its benefits for children. Our consultations aim to empower parents with valuable insights and strategies to further support their child's emotional well-being. We work collaboratively with parents to ensure they are equipped with the knowledge and tools to nurture their child's mental and emotional development.
